Lake Manyara National Park is a stunning safari destination, known for its breathtaking scenery and vast soda lake, which covers almost 75 percent of its surface. The park teems with wildlife, from large troops of baboons in the forests to herds of elephants and the famous tree-climbing lions. Around the lake, you’ll find buffaloes, warthogs, giraffes, wildebeest and zebras, along with abundant birdlife. The extremely diverse landscapes — from lush acacia woodlands and dense jungle forest to towering mountain cliffs and open grasslands — make this a haven for nature lovers.
Tarangire National Park is known for its majestic Baobab trees. These can grow to an enormous size and have a unique shape. The Park is also famous as it has the largest concentration of elephants in the world! You can see herds of up to 300 elephants around the Tarangire River. The River is the primary source of fresh water for the animals. In the dry season, they come here to drink or just to enjoy a bath to cool off from the hot sun. During the end of dry season, elephants dig into the riverbed to reveal underground water, or are looking for Baobab trees to slake their thirst.
Makuyuni Wildlife Park is not as widely known as some of the larger national parks, but its richness in wildlife in combination with its vast secluded environment makes it worth your visit. Situated within the Tarangire-Manyara ecosystem, covering an area of 49 square kilometres at just 70 kilometres from Arusha and on the way to Serengeti National Park, Makuyuni is a beautiful park with stunning landscapes. It’s the natural habitat of lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras and more, as well as a great place for birdwatchers.
In addition to wildlife, Makuyuni boasts very diverse vegetation – think open savannahs, lush woodlands and dramatic acacia-dotted plains – which make a walking safari extra interesting! The park is far less crowded than other wildlife areas, making it a peaceful destination for nature lovers who want to experience the wild beauty of East Africa at their own pace.
